Named after the forest barrier for precise co-ordinates, Haldua Farms is stands on 4 acres of farm land off the main road from Kashipur to Ramnagar. Only about 15 kilometres from the Corbett National Park, Jaggi & Guddi have made the farm their home for the past 40 years. Away from the clamour of regular guest houses and plenty of hotels that have sprung up in the area, the farm is a perfect base for visiting the National Park.

A wide green stretch of grass borders the side of the house and is undoubtedly the most charming area. Bougainvilleas from the terrace hang lazily on the side of the white walls of the house making a spritely contrast to the lush green. One is most likely to be greeted by Maxi, Coco and Ringo, the three delightful dogs of the hosts. One can get their own pets with prior discussion. Great for two families, the upper part of the house has been designated for guests. Two large spacious rooms open into the common seating area. A wide terrace and a veranda with a swing are perfect to bask in the sun on cold sunny winter days.

Jaggi, who ran a resort for twelve years is well acquainted with the area and has stories in abundance to keep you engaged over breakfast or tea. Pictures of Ladakh which adorn the walls, usually spur the conversation to travel and adventure. It will be hard to compete with someone who has an illustrious background of riding for the country along with the ‘erstwhile’ fascination for ‘shikaar’ (hunting) and playing the unique sport of pig-sticking. One can also try a hand at a game of bridge with Guddi, who is a whiz at the game. A ride in the 1942 Wilford Jeep with the couple is a must in one of the evenings.

Haldua Farms is definitely a remarkable place for some serene time to spend with a good book and enjoy the surrounding wilderness of the area.
